Beyoncé Helps Surprise Backup Dancers With Epic On-Stage Proposal

Beyoncé Helps Surprise Backup Dancers With Epic On-Stage Proposal: Beyoncé helps make dreams come true, even if it’s in the middle of one of her concerts!Beyoncé helps make dreams come true, even if it’s in the middle of one of her concerts! : Beyoncé helps make dreams come true, even if it’s in the middle of one of her concerts!

During the St. Louis, Missouri, stop of her Formation World Tour on Saturday night, the Lemonade singer paused her show in the middle of “Single Ladies” to help one of her backup dancers, John Silver, with one of the coolest engagements ever.

Beyoncé handed the over the mic to Silver and gave him a hug before the dancer popped the question to his girlfriend, dance captain Ashley Everett, in front of thousands of Queen Bey fans. The heartwarming public engagement came as a huge shock to Everett, who could not contain her excitement.

After Silver got down on one knee, the crowd went wild, with the cheering only getting louder when Everett said yes. After kissing, the two made sure to thank Beyoncé.

Because she’s a pro, Everett then got back in formation with her fellow dancers and finished out the very theme-appropriate song.

Beyonce just turned 35 last weekend, and the beloved pop diva celebrated the occasion by giving a gift to her fans by releasing her Lemonade track “Hold Up” on YouTube. It had previously only been available to Tidal subscribers. Check out the video below to hear more about Beyoncé’s birthday.

Obama promises support to Louisiana after floods

U.S. President Barack Obama walked door to door in an East Baton Rouge Parish neighborhood on Tuesday hugging people and offering assurances that the country would help them recover from some of the worst floods ever recorded in Louisiana. "What I want the people of Louisiana to know is, you’re not alone on this, even after the TV cameras leave," Obama said after touring brick homes whose lawns were cluttered with slabs of drywall and soaked sofas and mattresses. More than 2-1/2 feet (more than 76 cm) of rain fell on parts of the state in the worst U.S. disaster since 2012's Superstorm Sandy. At least 13 deaths have been attributed to flooding and more than 60,000 homes have been damaged.

Who or What Does 'Rogue One' Refer To? Director Gareth Edwards Reveals All

So, now we know what Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is about, and who the main players are for the prequel that takes place just prior to the very first Star Wars movie back in 1977. There’s just one mystery remaining: what does that title mean? “‘Rogue One’ is a military call sign to some extent,” director Gareth Edwards told Empire, referring to the fan-favorite “Rogue” squadron of Rebel pilots that debuted in 1980’s The Empire Strikes Back. However, he continued, “this is the first film that’s gone off-piste and is not part of the saga — or the Anakin story — so it’s the 'rogue’ one, you know?” That’s not the only reason behind the title, Edwards went on to explain. "It’s kind of describing [Felicity Jones’ character] as well in a similar way,” he said. “It has [all] these split, multiple meanings that made it feel like the right choice.”

Trump, in law and order speech, calls for African-American support

Trump, in law and order speech, calls for African-American support

Trump, in law and order speech, calls for African-American support : U.S. Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump on Tuesday delivered his most aggressive call yet to woo African-American voters, vowing to restore law and order, only days after a fatal police shooting of a black man sparked more street violence.

Speaking a few miles from Milwaukee, which was rocked by weekend riots, Trump accused his Democratic rival Hillary Clinton of "bigotry" and vowed to protect the jobs of minorities from immigrants. Trump has been repeatedly called a "bigot" by his Democratic opponents.

"I'm asking for the vote for every African-American citizen struggling in our society today who wants a different and much better future," Trump said.

"Jobs, safety, opportunity, fair and equal representation: We reject the bigotry of Hillary Clinton which panders to, and talks down to, communities of color and sees them only as votes – that’s all they care about – not as individual human beings worthy of a better future."

Earlier, Trump held three events in Milwaukee, a city still reeling from violent protests after the death of Sylville Smith, 23. Authorities said Smith was stopped for acting suspiciously and was shot by police because he was carrying an illegal handgun and refused orders to drop it.

Trump encountered only a handful of peaceful protesters while in the city, including some at a closed fundraiser.

He held a brief meeting with veterans and law enforcement, including Milwaukee County Sheriff David Clarke and Inspector Edward Bailey. But news media representatives were escorted out and not permitted to hear the discussions.

Clarke, who is black and spoke at last month's Republican National Convention, has criticized the protests, writing in an opinion piece for The Hill that they were "a collapse of the social order, where tribal behavior leads to reacting to circumstances instead of waiting for facts to emerge."

Trump also taped a town hall meeting with Fox News, in which he blamed President Barack Obama for what he sees as hostility toward police. "He has not been good to the police, simply, and the police are not big fans of his," Trump said.

Trump traveled 45 minutes outside of Milwaukee, which is 40 percent black, to deliver his appeal to African-American voters in the suburb of West Bend, Wisconsin, a community that is 95 percent white. He spoke before an almost entirely white audience.

"A vote for her (Clinton) is a vote for another generation of poverty, high crime and lost opportunities," Trump said. "Crime and violence is an attack on the poor and it will never be accepted in a Trump administration."

Clinton won the Democratic nomination in part thanks to her large victory margins among minorities in nearly every state, including overwhelming support from African-Americans in the South.

"With each passing Trump attack, it becomes clearer that his strategy is just to say about Hillary Clinton what's true of himself," Clinton spokeswoman Jennifer Palmieri said.

"When people started saying he was temperamentally unfit, he called Hillary the same. When his ties to the Kremlin came under scrutiny, he absurdly claimed that Hillary was the one who was too close to Putin.

"Now he's accusing her of bigoted remarks - we think the American people will know which candidate is guilty of the charge."

Trump also took aim at Clinton's past acceptance of large speaking fees, saying he would force top administration officials to sign a pledge not to accept speaking fees from corporations with registered lobbyists or foreign countries for five years after leaving office.

Police violence against African-Americans has set off intermittent, sometimes violent protests in the past two years, igniting a national debate over race and policing in the United States and giving rise to the Black Lives Matter movement.

Trump said critics of the police "share in the responsibility for the unrest in Milwaukee and other places in our country."

"The war on our police must end and it must end now," Trump said. "The war on police is a war against all peaceful citizens."

The shooting of Smith was likely justified, Trump argued in an interview with Fox News on Tuesday morning.

"But the gun was pointed at his (a police officer's) head, supposedly ready to be fired. Who can have a problem with that? That’s what the narrative is," Trump said. "Maybe it’s not true. If it is true, people shouldn’t be rioting."

SECURITY BRIEFING

Officials from the Office of Director of National Intelligence are expected to give Trump a briefing on national security issues this week, an adviser to Trump and a source familiar with the matter said on Tuesday.

Presidential candidates are entitled to a briefing of classified information after formally securing the nomination, which Trump did last month. Hillary Clinton, Trump's Democratic rival for the Nov. 8 election, is also entitled to receive a briefing if she requests one.

Democrats have criticized Trump's positions on foreign policy and national security, besides some freewheeling remarks. Democratic President Barack Obama has called Trump "unfit" for the presidency and this month warned the Republican candidate that briefing information must be kept secret.

Australian head coach Craig Hilliard defends decision to let Kim Mickle compete in Rio

Australian head coach Craig Hilliard defends decision to let Kim Mickle compete in Rio

Australian head coach Craig Hilliard defends decision to let Kim Mickle compete in Rio : AUSTRALIAN head coach Craig Hilliard has defended the decision to allow Kim Mickle to compete in Rio after the javelin star blew her shoulder apart for the second time in 12 months.

In horrible scenes inside the Olympic Stadium, Mickle grabbed her right shoulder in agony just after she released her third throw in the qualifying round.

It was immediately obvious the joint was dislocated and she wandered around the track desperate for assistance, which failed to come initially, before being escorted out of the stadium in tears and directly to hospital.

“She has dislocated her shoulder and it was after she released the javelin so it looks like it is the rear side of it,” Hilliard said. “We know nothing else other than she has gone to hospital to have it put in place.”

Mickle, 31, decided to hide the severity of a shoulder injury she suffered in the lead-up to last year’s world championships in Beijing.

That decision came back to haunt her as she hurt it again in the qualifying round and was required to have a shoulder reconstruction when she returned home to Australia.

The 2013 world championships silver medallist faced a race against time to get to Rio given it was just 11 months post-surgery but convinced herself and the Australian medical staff at the team’s pre-Olympic camp in Florida that she was fit enough to compete.

“Everything had been ticked off,” Hilliard said. “We wouldn’t have been taking risks given what occurred to her last year.

“It’s unfortunate because Kim did everything with her rehabilitation, she had MRI checks before she came away, she met all her fitness standards before she left and threw well in Florida.

“But once you have surgery on a shoulder it doesn’t matter what sport you’re in, the propensity for re-injuring is always high.

“She knew the risk but it is horrible for her.”

Mickle’s teammate Kathryn Mitchell, who threw in the other qualifying group, saw her friend come through the call room as she was preparing to compete.

“We saw her come through the call room holding her shoulder and it looked out of place,” Mitchell said. “It was a bit of a shock.

“She has done everything she can possibly do to get back for this competition, she has ticked every box in terms of her competition.

“She had to leave it all out there on the track tonight, she had to go for it, it’s the Olympic Games.

“I don’t think she even knew what would happen but you have to do that.

“She’ll bounce back, it’s Kim Mickle.”

Mitchell, who finished ninth in London four years ago, went on to qualify for the final, sneaking in last spot with a best throw of 61.63m.

“I didn’t expect to qualify in that manner but it doesn’t matter now, it’s done I am in,” she said.

“I was the twelfth qualifier in London and I hope to finish better than ninth place that I did there.

“I’m so relieved to get through, I think I deserve to be in the final as I have been in good shape.

“I belong in there with those girls and now we will fight it out then.”

Clinton leads Trump by six points in latest Reuters

Clinton leads Trump by six points in latest Reuters

Clinton leads Trump by six points in latest Reuters : Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton has a 6-percentage-point lead over Republican rival Donald Trump, according to a Reuters/Ipsos tracking poll released on Tuesday.

Clinton's support has ranged from 41 percent to 44 percent since late July, and was about 41 percent in the Aug. 11-15 online poll.

Trump's support has experienced wider shifts ranging from 33 percent to 39 percent while his campaign has endured controversies and distractions in recent weeks. He is favored by about 35 percent of likely voters, according to the most recent poll.

Trump has caused divisions in the Republican Party with his strong anti-immigrant and anti-Muslim rhetoric, and faced criticism from both parties earlier this month for a days-long feud with the parents of a Muslim American Army captain killed in Iraq. Last week, 70 Republicans, including former members of Congress and Republican National Committee staff, wrote a letter calling for the RNC to stop helping Trump, whose actions they said were "divisive and dangerous."

The number of likely voters who picked neither Clinton nor Trump in the poll was nearly 24 percent.

At this point in 2012, President Barack Obama was ahead of Republican nominee Mitt Romney by nearly the same margin, favored by 46 percent of likely voters to Romney's 41 percent, with about 13 percent picking neither candidate.

Obama and Romney swapped the lead in the poll several times through the summer and early fall before the president took and held the lead in late October.

In a separate Reuters/Ipsos poll that gave respondents the option to choose from Clinton, Trump, Libertarian candidate Gary Johnson and Green Party candidate Jill Stein, Clinton also led Trump by 6 percentage points.

Of the alternative party candidates, Johnson came in third with 8 percentage points. Stein had about 2 percentage points.

The Aug. 11-15 polls surveyed a sample of 1,132 and 1,131 likely voters, respectively, and had a credibility interval of 3 percentage points.

Intel shows off cordless virtual reality set

http://www.bipamerica.com/bipnews/technology/intel-shows-off-cordless-virtual-reality-set.html http://www.bipamerica.com/bipnews/wp-content/uploads/2016/08/Intel-shows-off-cordless-virtual-reality-set.png

Intel shows off cordless virtual reality set

Intel shows off cordless virtual reality set:- Intel staked a solid claim in virtual reality Tuesday at its developer forum, introducing the prototype for an untethered, all-in-one virtual reality headset it calls Project Alloy.

In his keynote, CEO Brian Krzanich made clear Intel wants its chips and technology to play a major role in this emerging market.

"Virtual reality represents one of those fundamental shifts that redefine the way we work, how we are going to entertain and how we communicate," he said.

Krzanich demonstrated a battery-powered, untethered virtual reality headset system that includes all the computational and graphic power it needs onboard. That in turn will set users free to move through virtual reality constructs without running into the physical constraints of a cord.

It also would allow the wearer to interact with the world in what’s being called augmented reality, technology that shows users an image overlay of their surroundings, giving them information about what they’re looking at or allowing them to manipulate virtual objects.

The Project Alloy headset incorporated Intel’s front-facing 3-D camera technology, which it calls Real Sense. That gives users the ability to use hand gestures to execute commands.

The headset Krzanich showed the audience was a single unit, no trailing wires, no tethering to a computer. The design contrasts with Facebook's Oculus Rift, the $600 VR headset that has been dinged by some reviewers because it tethers users to a box and limits movement.

It doesn’t appear that Intel actually plans to build VR headsets but rather to provide the design for various developers to work with.

By the second half of 2017 the company plans to make the specifications for Alloy available to all, “allowing everyone access to the build sheets, exactly what it takes to build an Alloy themselves,” Krzanich said.

That’s not surprising as Intel has never been a consumer product company, but instead enabling consumer products such as PC, said Brian Blau, a senior Intel analyst with Gartner.

“I suspect Project Alloy is similar to Google Daydream. It’s potentially a device, it's being prototyped, but it’s more of a set of specification that partners can use to build devices,” he said.

He noted that historically, Intel has worked hard to associate the Intel brand with new technologies, the long-running “Intel Inside” campaign for PCs branded that into consumers brains.

Now the Mountain View, Calif. company’s task is to associate the Intel brand with this new, all-in-one form for virtual reality, Blau said.

Intel did not announce how much the Project Alloy headset might sell for.

The bigger news long term may be that Intel and Microsoft plan on working together on virtual and augmented reality, said Patrick Moorhead, president and principal analyst with Moor Insights & Strategy.

Both companies were late to the game when it came to smartphones and it appears they don’t plan to miss this virtual train.

“Microsoft and Intel working together on mixed reality is a very positive sign and historically, more has been accomplished with the two working together than against each other,” said Moorhead.

Microsoft executive vice president Terry Myerson joined Intel's Krzanich on stage to say the two companies were working together on software to run virtual reality devices. Microsoft is developing its own VR headset, the HoloLens, which contains Intel chips. Additionally, Microsoft has said that all Windows 10 systems will have some capability of augmented reality capability.

Together, that adds up to a lot of ways for consumers to access this emerging technology, Moorhead said.

No cords

The untethered headset Krzanich showed the audience represents what could be the breakthrough form factor that will take VR from a niche device for game players to something that is truly becomes part of daily life in the way smartphones have.

How users enter virtual and augmented reality spaces today tends to fall into three groups. There are tethered headsets that plug into a computer, smartphone-based headsets that snap a phone into a headset and all-in-one headsets that contain all the processing and battery power.

“It’s a really interesting device because they have everything in one package, you don't have to worry about having the right smartphone or which headset you have, you don’t have to buy an expensive headset,” Blau said.

There's the full range of focal lengths, manual controls, fast focus and terrific video quality that records in 4K ultra-HD resolution, and has built-in image stabilization to steady the shot.

There's also a hefty $1,500 price tag. Now that your jaw returned back to normal, think about that for a minute. How much would it cost to buy a great 600mm lens (you know, the kinds you see sports photographers tote at professional games, or serious shooters taking along with them on safaris.)

OK, we'll do the work for you. A Canon 600mm lens will only set you back $11,499 on Amazon, or you could pick a cheaper 150-600mm zoom from Sigma for just under $1,000. And these lenses are super-duper heavy.

Granted, the $11,000 600mm lens is going to be way sharper than what you get on the RX100III. But, take a look here — the stuff I've picked up from the camera look fabulous. And I carried the camera everywhere with me on a recent trip to the Oregon coast and Washington Cascades, without any weight issues--and my pictures popped in a way they never could on a smartphone.

Sony has been struggling with the RX10 series for several years, and it looks like with the massive zoom upgrade (the II model was 24mm to 200mm) the company is making one last stab at breaking through to consumers. If 600mm doesn't do the trick, what will?

The RX10 got my attention two years ago as a compact camera with a built-in, pro level 24mm to 200mm lens--great for everything from wide shots to close-ups.

The tradeoff: The one-inch image sensor of the RX10 is smaller than on DSLRs and compact mirrorless cameras, but it’s three times the size of a point and shoot or smartphone chip and produces amazing images and video.

The RX10 has also been my favorite camera for run and run journalism--stills and video. The new model is heavier, and a little harder to get used to for this category--but after a shoot or two, I got comfy.

I never thought I wanted a big 600mm lens. The 200mm setting was always fine with me.

That is--until I started using it. With 600mm, I could:

— Shoot paparazzi style, for random street shooting far away from the action.

— Zoom in on the action naturally and quickly without straining to get closer, as in this cool shot of a dog wearing his summer shades at the river, or a bunny grazing in the grass.
Stills are fabulous, video even more so. The fast focus is a dream, the shots look great, and I love the slow zoom feature, which allows me to get closer to the action, with the steadiness of a video camera.

For journalism, I could take the camera to an event, like the Clinton rally above, be in the back of the room, get every shot I need on one camera, without having to run around in circles to get them. I can shoot a video on the spot and ask someone to hold the camera for me, confident that the image stabilization will steady the shot. Or place it on a tripod, and make use of the audio controls, and microphone and headphone jacks, to monitor the sound.

For most of you, you might consider this camera for your travels, either to improve your shots or dramatically lighten the load. It's a hefty investment, but I think you'll be glad you made the plunge.

USA women's basketball team overcomes slow start, rolls past Japan in Rio

RIO DE JANEIRO — There was suspense for a fleeting few minutes Tuesday, which is saying something when you’re talking about the U.S. women's Olympic basketball team.

This quarterfinal game against Japan, unlike every other one of the Americans’ challenges here, was like watching your favorite movie only to somehow stumble on a new plot twist.

Up by just two points late in the second quarter, this from the team that entered play having won its first five games by an average of 40.8 points? Unheard of. A  halftime speech from coach Geno Auriemma, who chided small forward Angel McCoughtry about her porous defense after Japan’s Miki Kurihara hit four circus threes that reminded him of Stephen Curry? Just flat out weird.

Twenty minutes later, after adjustments were made and Diana Taurasi and Maya Moore (19 points apiece) caught fire, their one-sided world was back to normal: Team USA 110, Japan 64 at Carioca Arena.

The dominance continues, with a semifinal game against either France or Canada on Thursday.

(At halftime) we just said, ‘Look, this is how we’re going to play defense, this is where we’re going to go with the ball, this is how we’re going to attack them, ok? We’re going to take away this, this and that, and then let’s run with it,” Auriemma said. “They did the rest. They were unbelievable in the second half. … In the last 17 minutes of the game, it was pretty amazing. That was a pretty amazing brand of basketball, against a really, really good team.”

Taurasi, who had a three-pointer during an 8-0 run to end the first half with Team USA up 56-46, helped turn it all around.

“I just let it all hang out,” Taurasi said. “I just knew that if we were going to go, we were going to let it all hang out. … I’m just proud of this team. You look at the score, and you think it was an easy game. But Japan (which entered 3-2 in pool play) is one of the toughest teams.”

The winning streak – now 47 in the Olympics as they pursue a sixth consecutive gold medal – was safe by the fourth quarter. This team still hasn't won a game by single digits since a four-point game against Russia in the 2004 Athens Olympics.

Even still, this was a game. Until Auriemma’s message apparently hit home at the intermission.

“He said that my (expletive) better get down and guard somebody and don’t let nobody else beat me to the basket,” said McCoughtry, who added 13 points and helped hold Kurihara scoreless in the second half. “He made (the comment) in a funny, kind of sarcastic way.”

Sure, she could call it funny – because they won.

“Wooh,” McCoughtry said about the second-half surge. “We needed it, though. The great thing about our team is that people like Diana and Sue (Bird), they don’t panic. They just know how to play through it, and we follow their lead.”

Now to wait and see if there’s reason to panic as it relates to Bird.

The 35-year-old point guard was removed from the action in the second quarter when she felt something disconcerting in her right knee. The decision to pull her from play was characterized by Auriemma as precautionary, but more should be known when she is reevaluated Wednesday morning. Bird – one of three Team USA players attempting to win a record-tying fourth gold medal (with Taurasi and Tamika Catchings) – did not speak to reporters in the mixed zone afterward.

Hey students this gear makes the grade

http://www.bipamerica.com/bipnews/technology/hey-students-this-gear-makes-the-grade.html http://www.bipamerica.com/bipnews/wp-content/uploads/2016/08/Hey-students-this-gear-makes-the-grade.jpg

Hey students this gear makes the grade

Hey students this gear makes the grade:- No student should step onto campus without a few tech toys to help them remain productive, connected and entertained. If you’re looking for some ideas on what to invest in for the school year, we’ve compiled 11 great gadgets for use in the dorm room, lecture hall, or while walking around between classes.(While this week focuses on high-school and college picks, next week’s Surf Report column will look at educational tech toys for younger students.)

All in the wrist

Students are often on the run, and so a wrist-mounted smartwatch might be a convenient way to stay on top of your busy life. Crafted with stainless steel and strong glass, the Pebble Steel ($179.99) is Bluetooth-connected watch that talks to a nearby smartphone (Apple iOS or Android), and works with thousands of apps and customizable watch faces. Apps can show you who’s calling or texting, live sports scores, turn-by-turn navigation, fitness info, playable games, music control, and more. This waterproof watch comes with both metal and leather straps.

Print, scan, repeat

The HP Envy 5660 Wireless e-All-In-One ($149.99) is compact wireless printer, scanner and copier, that can produce lab-quality photos and laser-quality documents from your smartphone, tablet, or laptop -- even when you’re out of the home or dorm room. Other features include a 2.7-inch color touchscreen, automatic 2-sided printing to save on paper, a 125-sheet main input tray, and support for HP Instant Ink, a smart service (from $2.99/month) that automatically sends new ink to your door when the all-in-one detects its running low.

My buds

The just-launched Samsung Gear IconX ($199.99) is a pair of wireless earbuds that can hold up to 1,000 songs on its 4GB of internal storage – therefore not taking up any valuable space on your smartphone – but can also wireless connect to your smartphone via Bluetooth, if you prefer. This teeny product has another trick up its sleeve: it’s also a fitness tracker that can give you audible info like speed, distance, duration, calories burned, and heart rate. After your workout, sync the Gear IconX with your Samsung smartphone for a deeper dive on your stats.

On the surface

There are tablets, and there are laptops, but the Surface Pro 4 (from $899.99, not including 10 percent student discount) straddles that line between the two form factors. By day, write notes using the bundled Surface Pen on the 12.3-inch HD touchscreen. At night, prop up the kickstand attached an optional Type Cover keyboard and cranked out an essay. Or use your fingertips to flick through movies, games, or ebooks. Powered by an Intel Core processor and full Windows 10 OS, Surface also has a USB port, microSD slot, and more.

Wham Cam, thank you, ma’am

Want to make sure your college roommate isn’t touching your stuff when you’re not there? The my link HD Day/Night Wi-Fi Camera (model # DCS-936L; $79.99) is a discrete wireless camera that not only saves recordings onto a microSD memory card – once it triggers sound or motion – but you can get notifications on your phone wherever you may be (and with no monthly fees). Along with night vision support and a wide-angle 130-degree lens to get more in, this camera also has a Wi-Fi signal indicator to help you find the optimal spot to place it in.

What’s your type?

Rather than lug a laptop between classes, students might only need a smartphone or tablet and Logitech’s portable and afford K380 Multi-Device Bluetooth Keyboard ($39.99). Whether you’re on an iPhone, iPad, Android, or Windows device, this one portable keyboard can be used wirelessly with up to three different devices. Along with multiple colors to choose from, a comfortable QWERTY keyboard and handy shortcut keys, battery life lasts up to 2 years (via two AAA batteries, preinstalled).

Beam me up, Scotty

When is a tablet more than a tablet? When it’s also a projector for your dorm room. Say, what? The Lenovo Yoga Tablet 3 Pro ($599.99) is a stunning 10.1-inch tablet with a trick up its sleeve: press a button on the side to splash a movie on your wall up to 70 inches. This Android-powered device also has a built-in kickstand, front-firing JBL speakers, expandable memory, and a killer battery that lasts up to 18 hours between charges.

Thanks for the memory

Your iPhone 6 or iPhone 6s is a pretty sweet smartphone, but a clever accessory can expand its storage, boost its battery, and protect it from the bumps and knocks of every day student life. Starting at $59.99 (for 32GB), the SanDisk iXpand Memory Case can automatically back-up photos and videos from your camera roll, or let you play movies off the case, so it doesn’t take up any internal storage. A 64GB and 128GB option is available, too. The optional $39 SanDisk iXpand Battery pack adds a magnetic 1900mAh boost to the back of the case.

Music matters

Add some boom to your dorm room with the House of Marley Get Together ($199.99). With a built-in rechargeable battery and integrated Bluetooth connectivity, this portable sound system is perfect streaming your tunes wirelessly from your favorite device. With front and back panels made of natural bamboo, as well as exclusive Rewind fabric (made from recycled water bottles, hemp, and organic cotton), this great-looking speaker doesn’t just sound great but is also attractive and environmentally sustainable.

More monitor

While you might be happy with your existing computer, you might want to supersize your view. LG’s massive 34-inch LG UltraWide Curved LED Monitor (model #34UM88C; $908.99) offers a ton of real estate – ideal for serious multitaskers – thanks to its 21: 9 aspect ratio, which is like having two monitors side by side. Also recommended for movie lovers, computer gamers, and video editors, this IPS monitor offers Quad HD resolution, multiple connectivity options, and integrated speakers.

Java Junction

College-bound students could probably use some good coffee to help them through long study sessions. The Keurig K200 Coffee Brewer ($119.99) is an ultra compact premium coffee maker – ideal for the tiniest of dorm rooms – and can brew in one of nine sizes, such as 4 oz. or 10 oz. Cups, or even a full carafe for a late night exam cram. Available in white, red or black, the K200 also features separate settings for hot cocoa and other specialty beverages, like chai tea.

Shaunae Miller wins 400m final at Rio Olympics

Shaunae Miller wins 400m final at Rio Olympics

Shaunae Miller wins 400m final at Rio Olympics : It was the only dive into anything that resembled blue water at the Rio Olympics - and it resulted in a gold medal for the Bahamas' Shaunae Miller in the women's 400 metre final.

It was a dive that would have made Billy Slater proud, but to make it even more incredible, Miller's effort on a wet Rio track was probably the difference between a gold or silver medal for the 22-year-old from Nassau.

American Allyson Felix, the defending champion from the London Olympics, was closing in on Miller over the last 100 metres.

But just as it looked like the United States would collect yet another gold medal, Miller lunged at the finish line and managed to finish 0.07 seconds in front of her closest rival (49.44 to 49.51 seconds).

"I've never done it before,' Miller said of her dive. "I have some cuts and bruises, a few burns… it hurt."

"When I was on the ground I didn't know I'd won, I still don't know how it happened. What was in my mind was I had to get a gold medal. The next thing I was on the ground. It's an amazing feeling."

Miller competed in London in 2012 but did not finish the race, but four years on she finished in style to upset the American whose silver medal was her seventh overall in four Olympic campaigns.

Miller was in disbelief after the race, laying on the floor for several minutes as she soaked in the enormity of the occasion.

She only realised she had won gold when she heard her mother yelling from the stands.

"While I was laying on the ground, she was looking at me like, 'Get up, get up'," Miller said.

"And I was like, 'Not right now, just leave me to catch myself real quick'. "That's how I found out. I was laying on the ground, the results hadn't came out yet. I heard her scream and she was like, 'Yeah, yeah, yeah.' So I was like, 'Ok, I had to have won the race'."

Earlier Kenya's David Rudisha stormed to victory in the Olympic 800m final, retaining his title with a devastating final lap sprint.

Rudisha, the world champion and world record holder, hit top gear in the final 300 metres to become the first man since New Zealander Peter Snell in 1964 to successfully defend the Olympic 800m title.

Rudisha crossed the line in 1.42.15, several metres ahead of Algeria's Taoufik Makhloufi, while fast-finishing American Clayton Murphy grabbed bronze.

Russia says near deal with US to ease fighting in Aleppo

Russia says near deal with US to ease fighting in Aleppo : Russia is close to a deal with the United States to ease fighting in Aleppo, said Russian Defence Minister Sergey Shoygu on Monday evening, speaking on Russian TV station Rossiya 24.

"Step by step, we are nearing an arrangement - I'm talking exclusively about Aleppo - that would allow us to find common ground and start fighting together for bringing peace to that territory," Shoygu said.

Also on Monday, the spokesman for German Chancellor Angela Merkel called on Moscow to use its influence on Syria's president to ease the suffering of Aleppo residents, and said the announcement by Russia of a three-hour daily ceasefire to allow humanitarian aid into Aleppo is "cynical", because three hours isn't enough time to allow aid in.

According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, since July 31 until August 14 there have been 327 civilian deaths due to airstrikes in Aleppo and surrounding areas, including 76 children and 41 women, with dozens of wounded.

Meanwhile, ISIS claimed responsibility for a suicide bombing on a bus carrying rebel fighters on Monday at the Atmeh border crossing with Turkey, which killed at least 30 rebel fighters.

Local sources said at least 200 rebel fighters from various factions have bases at the border crossing in Atmeh and use the crossing to receive weapons, supplies and additional fighters.

Analysis: Trump nation-building view more in line with Obama

http://www.bipamerica.com/bipnews/politics/analysis-trump-nation-building-view-more-in-line-with-obama.html http://www.bipamerica.com/bipnews/wp-content/uploads/2016/08/Trump-nation-building-view-more-in-line-with-Obama.jpg

Analysis: Trump nation-building view more in line with Obama

Trump nation-building view more in line with Obama :  WASHINGTON (AP) — Donald Trump says that as president he would end "our current strategy of nation-building and regime change" because they don't work. His dislike for nation-building is shared by many, including none other than the target of his criticism, President Barack Obama.

In fact it was Obama's predecessor, Republican George W. Bush, who committed the U.S. to large-scale nation-building projects in Iraq and Afghanistan. Obama discarded that strategy while trying to keep enough U.S. influence there to prevent those two countries from crumbling. Obama's approach may not have worked, but it's not Bush-like "nation-building."

And while the Republican presidential nominee argued against nation-building in a foreign policy speech Monday, he advocated for something even more grandiose: seizing Iraq's oil wealth in the aftermath of the U.S. invasion in 2003 that toppled Saddam Hussein.

"I have long said that we should have kept the oil in Iraq," he said in Youngstown, Ohio. "I said, 'Keep the oil. Keep the oil. Keep the oil. Don't let somebody else get it.'" It would have required U.S. troops to protect the oil, he said, but the benefit would have been clear today.

"If we had controlled the oil like I said we should, we could have prevented the rise of ISIS in Iraq, both by cutting off a major source of funding and through the presence of U.S. forces necessary to safeguard the oil and vital infrastructure products necessary for us to have the oil."

Rather than nation-building, this would have been nation-grabbing, making Iraq a de-facto American colony.

In the final months of his administration, Bush negotiated an agreement with the Iraqi government that called for all U.S. troops to leave the country by December 2011. Obama stuck to that schedule, believing that the Iraqis needed to stand on their own while the U.S. turned its attention to other pressing needs at home and abroad, what he called "nation building at home." Obama, supported by his first secretary of state, Hillary Clinton, saw Bush's nation-building effort as a proven failure.

[caption id="attachment_10939" align="aligncenter" width="764"]Analysis: Trump nation-building view more in line with Obama Analysis: Trump nation-building view more in line with Obama[/caption]

Iraqi politics, however, never overcame sectarian divisions, undermining the Iraqi army and leaving an easy target for IS.

Trump is right that the Islamic State capitalized on the political and security vacuum in Iraq in 2014, but it's not clear that a long-term U.S. military occupation to hold and exploit Iraqi's oil resources would have led to a more stable outcome.

Trump says he would have used money from the sale of Iraqi oil to pay for the care of wounded soldiers and the families of those Americans killed in the war.

"This proposal by its very nature would have left soldiers in place of our assets," he said. "We would have had soldiers there guarding this valuable supply of oil. In the old days, when we won a war, to the victor belonged the spoils."

After major military victories, the 240-year-old United States has tended to pour money and aid back into countries it has fought to help re-establish governments and services. It was, in fact, a kind of nation-building approach. The U.S. still has troops in Germany and Japan, with the permission of those nations, but it never confiscated their natural resources.

In his speech, Trump said that as president he would discard "nation-building." In its place would be what he called a new approach, which he described simply as halting the spread of "radical Islam." He said that if elected he would convene an international conference on the topic and work closely with Israel, Jordan, Egypt, Russia, the NATO alliance and "all others who recognize this ideology of death that must be extinguished."

Trump also called Monday for "extreme" ideological vetting of immigrants seeking admission to the United States, vowing to significantly overhaul the country's screening process and block those who sympathize with extremist groups or don't embrace American values.

"Those who do not believe in our Constitution, or who support bigotry and hatred, will not be admitted for immigration into our country," Trump said. "Only those who we expect to flourish in our country — and to embrace a tolerant American society — should be issued visas."

Trump's proposals were the latest version of a policy that began with his unprecedented call to temporarily bar foreign Muslims from entering the country — a religious test that was criticized across party lines as un-American.

Biden on Trump: ‘He woulda loved Stalin’

Biden on Trump: ‘He woulda loved Stalin’

Biden on Trump: ‘He woulda loved Stalin’ : The vice president tore into Donald Trump on Monday during a rally for Hillary Clinton in Scranton, Pa. calling his ideas “dangerous” and “un-American.”

Joe Biden was speaking in his hometown — on his first campaign stop with Hillary Clinton — where he made a passionate pitch to working class voters and tore into the Republican nominee on foreign policy.

“No major party nominee in the history of the United States of America…has known less or been less prepared to deal with our national security than Donald Trump,” Biden said after citing his years of experience working with presidents, members of Congress, secretaries of State and Defense of both parties.

Biden brought up Trump’s praise of Russian President Vladimir Putin — who he said Trump "admired" — and the former president of Iraq Saddam Hussein.

“He’s even showered praise on Saddam Hussein, one of the violentest dictators of the 21st century,” Biden said. “He woulda loved Stalin.”

Biden said that Trump could not be trusted with the nuclear codes (after saying that the man holding the nuclear codes was actually in the room in case something happened to the president in Biden needed them.)

“He is not qualified to know the code, he can’t be trusted,” Biden said. Biden then brought up his late son former Delaware attorney general Beau Biden who served in Iraq.

“I was proud my son Beau served for a year in Iraq,” Biden said. “I must tell you had Donald Trump been president I would have thrown my body in front of him…to keep him from going if the judgment was based on Trump’s decision.”

[caption id="attachment_10930" align="aligncenter" width="580"]Biden on Trump' He woulda loved Stalin' Biden on Trump' He woulda loved Stalin'[/caption]

US Politics Breaking News , last week Trump repeatedly said that President Obama was the founder of ISIS (he later said he was just being sarcastic) a comment which Biden called not only “outrageous” but “dangerous.”

“If my son were still in Iraq, and I say to all those who are still there, the threat to their life has gone up a couple clicks,” he said.

Biden’s speech also included lengthy accounts of growing up in Scranton with a working class family. He said if you are a voter worried about making ends meet at all: “There’s only one person in this election who will possibly help you and that is Hillary Clinton.”

Clinton has been campaigning heavily in working-class battleground states such as Pennsylvania where she is currently leading Trump by a significant margin. Her RealClearPolitics average in the state has her at 49% compared to Trump at 40%.

The campaign event was originally scheduled for early July but was postponed following the killing of five police officers in Dallas.

The Republican National Committee issued a statement shortly after the campaign event, calling Clinton a continuation of the Obama administration's "failed policies."

“Hillary Clinton keeps showing she is all in for expanding the Obama Administration’s failed policies if she becomes president,” said RNC Chairman Reince Priebus. “Americans don’t want another president whose ‘leading from behind’ mentality set the table for ISIS to grow and made our homeland more vulnerable to radical Islamic terrorism. Hillary Clinton’s ruinous foreign policy choices as Secretary of State and reckless mishandling of classified information show she cannot be trusted to lead our nation as commander-in-chief, and only Donald Trump will bring the toughness and strong leadership America needs to defeat the global scourge of terrorism.”

Dem senators to Clinton: Stick with Garland

Dem senators to Clinton: Stick with Garland: Top Senate Democrats are pushing Hillary Clinton to renominate Merrick Garland for the Supreme Court, a move party strategists argue would give her an early advantage against Republicans if she wins the presidency.

They're not waiting until Election Day — or a lame-duck session of Congress — to define the first major decision of a Clinton presidency.

“In her first 100 days, does she want a Supreme Court fight?” asked a senior Democratic aide.

The calls follow months of chatter among Democrats on both sides of Pennsylvania Avenue that Clinton’s smartest political play if she takes the White House would be, essentially, calling the Republicans bluff: they’ve praised Garland, but insisted on a principle that President Barack Obama shouldn’t get to put anyone on the high court in his final year in office.

By sticking with Garland, the thinking goes, Clinton would save herself some of the political capital inherent in making a court nomination, as well as the stress on what would be a brand new White House staff to vet nominee and promote them on the Hill and in the media.

“He’s somebody who the voters clearly think should be confirmed and has the kind of resonating background that would be broadly appealing to voters,” said Geoff Garin, a prominent Democratic pollster. “There are obvious advantages but presidents also like to have the opportunity to make their own choices as well.”
Some Democrats have even mulled the possibility that, if Democrats retake control of the Senate in November, they might move on Garland in the two weeks after the new Senate is in session but before Inauguration Day. That might take on more steam if, despite recent polls showing him far behind, Donald Trump is elected president.

But renominating Garland would mean that Clinton, who’s already running the 2016 campaign as more of an extension of Obama than she ever planned, would have to make one of her first and most significant decisions as president a direct extension of his presidency, long after he’s settled into his new home in Washington's Kalorama neighborhood. It also could cause an instant letdown on the left, which has long been skeptical of Clinton's liberal credentials and may want a pure progressive choice.

“Yes. I would recommend it. I think he’s an extraordinary judge who has a highly, well-qualified rating from the bar associations,” said Senate Minority Whip Dick Durbin (D-Ill.), joining outgoing Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid, who Thursday expressed his support for the renomination in a conference call with reporters.

Durbin and Reid are not alone among Senate Democrats spoiling to give Garland another shot under a new Democratic president. Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) supports renominating Garland, an aide said, as does Sen. Chris Coons (D-Del.). Both are members of the Judiciary Committee.

“I think she should strongly consider renominating him,” said Coons, in an interview late last month during the Democratic convention.

Coons, who said he was still optimistic about the lame duck, warned his Republican colleagues that they shouldn’t let it get to the point when they risk a President Clinton, fresh in office, nominating a younger and more progressive judge.

Reid went further than anyone else on Thursday, professing not only hope that Garland is selected by Clinton but also predicting that the Democratic presidential nominee would choose Garland in an effort not to “rock the boat” upon assuming the presidency.

Incoming Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer, speaking late last month, argued that “the odds of Merrick Garland getting on the court and getting on the court sooner rather than later are higher than you would think.”

But Schumer ducked on whether he thinks Clinton should renominate him.

“I’m not going to judge what she should do,” he said.

Democrats are confident that if Garland received a vote next year he would breeze through the Judiciary Committee and break a filibuster on the Senate floor with support of moderate Republicans and GOP lawmakers who still believe in some deference to the president. Garland already has two GOP senators publicly asking to bring him up for a vote and is likely to find himself increasingly popular among Republicans if Trump continues his sharp slide in the polls.

Sen. Susan Collins (R-Maine) told NBC”s Chuck Todd that Republicans could be “hoisted on their own petard” by ignoring Garland because Clinton may choose someone far more liberal.

“I very much want Judge Garland to be brought up before the full Senate,” Collins told Todd this week. “It would be the height of irony if Hillary wins and asked President Obama to withdraw the nomination so that she can make her own choice, which almost certainly would result in a much more liberal nomination.”

Sen. Jeff Flake (R-Ariz.) has already said that GOP leaders should consider confirming Garland if it appears that their party is going to lose the election. Sen. Mark Kirk (R-Ill.), who’s trying to hold on to his seat this year, has argued for hearing and said he’d consider supporting Garland

The prospect of Clinton going with a new nominee presents other concerns for Democrats. Moderate Democrats like Joe Manchin of West Virginia were already noncommittal about Garland—a more liberal nominee could bleed centrist support. Five Democrats representing red states are up for reelection in 2018, with their voting records under intense scrutiny in what’s already looking like it will be a very difficult year for the party.

Aides to several more liberal senators said their bosses aren’t wedded to Garland, and are deferential to Clinton. During his presidential run, Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) said he would withdraw Garland’s nomination as president if the spot remained open, though he often blasted Republicans for blockading Garland as Obama’s choice. Now Michael Briggs, a spokesman for Sanders, said simply: “I'm sure he'd be far preferable to any Trump nominee.”

Sanders “had said he would pick someone different. But it's not going to be his choice,” Briggs said.

As Democrats repeat their current mantra that somehow McConnell will break and confirm Garland this year, Republicans say that by pressing Garland to be renominated, Democrats are effectively waving the white flag for 2016.

“It’s nice that Sen. Reid is reversing himself and no longer claiming that a SCOTUS nominee will be confirmed this year,” said a senior Republican staffer.

The White House has maintained the same position from the beginning: it’s ridiculous that Senate Republicans are engaged in obstructing a Supreme Court nominee, and that the confirmation should come immediately, regardless of the election or other considerations.

Clinton press secretary Brian Fallon declined comment on what she might do as president, but pointed to past statements calling Garland "a brilliant jurist" and saying Republicans have no reason not to confirm him.

But Garland backers have welcomed the swell of support after the Democratic National Convention rolled through Philadelphia with nary a mention of the party’s Supreme Court pick.

“This is obviously promising news for the Merrick Garland camp,” said a Democratic strategist working the confirmation. “If there was ever a lingering sense that he should be tossed to the side should Democrats win in November, this now sends a strong signal that the Senate Democratic leadership will be standing by him.”

The strategist added, “This mostly adds to the inevitability that Garland will be on the Supreme Court—further exposing the Republican stalling tactic for what it is: a joke.”
