Heterosexual Pride Day Trends on Twitter | Heterosexual Pride Day Hashtag Takes Off On Twitter | Heterosexual Pride Day News
Heterosexual Pride Day Trends on Twitter : LGBT Pride Month, is an officially celebrated in cities across the U.S. each June and mimicking closely #HeterosexualPrideDay trended Wednesday morning on Twitter, which according to many was totally missing the point. America’s first gay pride parade was held in New York, June 1970, marking the riots a year earlier. This inspired the first national gay rights monument designated last week.
Since that first gay pride parade, some have asked why aren’t equivalent “straight pride” celebrations.
#HeterosexualPrideDay hashtag was mostly a phrase promoted by trolls hoping to rile the Internet while it seemed to attract tweeters who assumed it to be a genuine sentiment and seemed to backfire. Most of Twitter’s “top” tweets using the hashtag seemed to attract tweets critical or affirming of LGBT people.
It looks like people may have misunderstood the definition of “pride” as used in “gay pride.” It isn’t about the feeling of superiority, that you are more important or better than other people but it’s about respecting oneself and be respected by others.
Historically and traditionally heterosexuals are respected the world over others, there are over 70 countries as of 2015, where homosexuality is illegal and punishable. There are few countries where Homosexuality is punishable by death and there has never been any country where being heterosexual is illegal.
A Gallup study that less that 4% identify themselves as LGBT, while fellow citizens believe it’s over 20%, suggesting that straight people are in no danger of lacking respect and don’t require some special event to be recognized in the society, in a way parallel to LGBT people.
And for that, commentator LZ Granderson wrote, straight people should be thankful.
